Where I Have Been

posted Wednesday, 20 February 2008

Hey folks, sorry I haven't posted in a while. The reasons are twentyfold.

1) The Writers Strike has ended, so my dance card is suddenly chock full with meetings and empty promises.

2) Had friends from Missouri in town for a week, and it was a week of minimal sleep/maximum alcohol and karaoke. It was a blast but unfortunately led to...

3) A crippling case of the flu, which had me at various points shivering violently, sweating profusely, and unable to walk. Thankfully, I do not have medical insurance, so I got to use the always reliable "praying for death" method of recovery.

4) I have been writing full time for a new animated series tentatively titled Bob & Doug. The show will trace the exploits of Bob and Doug McKenzie, as brilliantly played by the great Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis (whom I wrote about on this very site two years ago) on SCTV and in the classic comedy Strange Brew. Thomas and Moranis are voicing the characters, and Thomas is heading up the writers' room -- awesome. I've been obsessed with SCTV since I was a kid. In fact, I almost moved to Chicago after college to audition for the Second City, but opted for New York instead. So needless to say, this has been a dream job. The scripts we've been churning out have been hilarious, and I'm eager to see it all turned into animation. The program will air on Canadian television in 2009, and the powers that be are preparing to take it out to American distributors shortly. I have a strong feeling you'll be able to see it in the U.S.

The image “http://www.cbc.ca/arts/images/pics/strangebrew.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

5) Soooo, I must admit, after a full day of writing...writing when I get home is a lot less appealing. But I'll try to get back into the groove. Tomorrow, I'll hit you up with my Oscar picks, so you can screw your co-workers in the pools. You ever screwed your co-worker in a pool? Pretty hot.

And I think that's it. I've got a little free time today, so I'm going to go back and respond to your loads of glorious comments in the past several entries. Check 'em out.

I've seen Strange Brew about a hundred times. I'm dancing for joy just knowing the show is coming, but I am truly happy you're a part of it. Biggest congrats!

I was about to leave a comment as to your whereabouts....being the mother and all I was beginning to worry that you might be suffering from some Master Cleanse backlash or something close to it. No insurance?? You? On the verge of greatness? You better hone your negotiating skills.

HUGE congratulations on the show. I'm psyched to see it someday. Sounds like lots of good things are happening. No surprise here. Good luck. Now don't let it go to your head.

That's great - isn't it every child's dream job to be working for Dark Helmet himself!? (and Sam Sleaze from "Follow that Bird")

OH my god, "Follow That Bird"?!?! I haven't thought about that movie in ages, and I used to be obsessed with it when I was little. I need to track it down.

Pat, are you going to review Vantage Point? IT's a recent movie I've actually seen and have comments about, so I want to see what you think :)
